Study Title: Critical Transitions in Early Mathematical Development

Name of Researchers: Sandy Youmans and Lynda Colgan, Faculty of Education, Queen’s University

We are asking Early Childhood Educators, Kindergarten teachers, and Grade 1 teachers to take part in a research study examining early math education in preschool and school settings. If you agree to take part, you will complete an on-line survey that is expected to take 15-20 minutes. There are no known risks to the study. Survey results will be used to plan and implement math-related professional development for educators working in preschool and primary school settings and to develop a website with resources to support early math education programs.

There is no obligation for you to say yes to take part in this study. You don’t have to answer any questions you don’t want to. You can stop participating at any time without penalty. As survey responses are anonymous, you can withdraw by closing your browser while doing the survey. You cannot withdraw after completing the survey. We will keep your data securely for at least five years.

We will share survey results with multiple stakeholders (e.g., educators, school board administrators, administrators at post-secondary institutions that provide educator training) to make them aware of educator-identified early math education program needs. We hope to publish the results of this study in academic journals and present them at conferences.
